A BUMPER week of family fun is coming to Mapperton House and Gardens this half term.

Mapperton House, the family home of the Earl and Countess of Sandwich, will welcome families into the grounds to enjoy some fun outdoor activities and get out in the fresh air.

From May 30 to June 3, visitors of all ages are invited to put on fancy dress and make their way through a garden trail, following clues around the grounds.

The more adventurous visitors can sign up to a two-hour guided walk through the west Dorset countryside on Monday, May 31. The walk will be led by ecologist Dr Tom Brereton and participants will have the opportunity to explore the plants, birds, insects and other wildlife in the area.

Mapperton's popular spring plant fair will be held on Sunday, June 6, where garden enthusiasts will have the chance to pick up some plants from a range of specialist stalls and wander round the gardens.

The Coach House Café will be open for food and drinks throughout the week.

Luke Montagu, Viscount Hinchingbrooke, said: "All of us at Mapperton are delighted to be able to welcome visitors of all ages to these events celebrating the start of summer.

"There’s the chance to get plenty of fresh air, have fun exploring the gardens and take the opportunity to discover a wealth of nature in some of the seldom-visited countryside nearby. We very much look forward to welcoming everyone."

Tickets must be purchased for all the events. For more information and to book tickets, visit www.mapperton.com
