BRIDPORT have appointed Rob Marquis as their new manager.

Former Bridport and Weymouth goalkeeper Marquis steps up from assistant after the sudden departure of boss John Godbold yesterday.

Godbold has been offered a new job working at soccer schools in the Middle East.

Shaun Annetts is promoted as number two to Marquis.

First-team coach James Short and physio River Sutherland stay on.

Echosport understands Marquis also has the budget at his disposal to add six experienced Western League players to the Bees' ranks.

Marquis will also bring in another coach to help promote the crop of young talent at St Mary's Field.

Bridport chairman Adrian Scadding said: "I can confirm that we have appointed Rob Marquis as our new first-team manager after the shock resignation of John Godbold.

"John has been offered another job abroad and it was too good to turn down.

"Myself and all at Bridport FC understand his decision and we wish him good luck in his new venture.

"We have kept things in-house. Rob has stepped up to take this position.

"He will be assisted by long-serving Shaun Annetts who has run our reserve team and recently assisted with the first team.

"We wish Rob and Shaun good luck in their first season together, along with all their backroom staff.

"I would also like to say thank you for all the phone calls from managers offering their services.

"I was overwhelmed with the interest of people wanting to join Bridport."
