COASTGUARD and police officers were called to rescue a person who got stuck in mud.

Officers from Lyme Regis Coastguard were called to rescue a person stuck in mud at Exmouth at 10.57pm last night.

Coastguard officers from Exmouth and Teignmouth were also called.

The team from Lyme Regis were stood down while they were responding as the person had managed to get out.

A spokesman for Lyme Regis Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Lyme Regis Coastguard team was tasked, alongside our colleagues from both Exmouth and Teignmouth, to rescue a person stuck in the mud at Exmouth.

"We were stood down en route as the person had “self-recovered” with help from a family member and the local police. The coastguard discourage people from attempting a rescue on their own as they may become stuck as well."

For emergencies on the sea, cliff, river, mud, harbour and beach, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
