DORCHESTER Town are in “advanced talks” to sign a forward-minded player, according to boss Robbie Herrera.

Herrera lost star striker Tom Bath last week after the former Tiverton man decided to move on, mainly due to travelling reasons.

The departing Bath, who scored 21 goals in 47 career games at the Avenue Stadium, has left Dorchester with a goals void to fill and Herrera is working to plug the gap.

Pressed on a name, the Magpies’ manager elected to keep his cards close to his chest to avoid scuppering any potential deal.

He told Echosport: “I’ve got a lad that’s going to be moving down our way in September.

“I’m hopeful he might well be the answer. I’m still on the lookout for another striker and I’ve got a few irons in the fire.

“Hopefully, one of them will come off. A couple of them are lads I’ve spoken to.

“I don’t want to give out names and then all of a sudden they don’t come off. It doesn’t look great.”

He added: “We’re in advanced talks with one player and I’m just waiting now to tie up the loose ends.

“Scott (Symes) the chairman is going to do a few bits as well.

“It would be a decent signing if we can get him fit and firing, because he’s not played many games over the last year or so.

“If it comes off, at our level it would be a very good player.

“He’s an attacker, plays as a 10 or a wide man.

“On his day he’s a handful.”
