DORCHESTER Town manager Robbie Herrera is hopeful of securing a “big signing” as talks continue over luring new players to the Avenue Stadium.

Herrera is looking to add one key player in goal, defence, midfield and in attack to form what he describes as the “spine” of his team.

Dorchester are keen for Tiago Sa, Charlie Madden, Ashley Wells, Oakley Hanger, Sam Davidson, Billy Lowes, Harry Hodges and Sam Bayston to stay at the club for another season.

However, star striker Tom Bath decided to leave the club and the Magpies have released centre-back Josiah Dunstan.

Speaking to Echosport, Herrera said: “I’ve spoken to somebody that would come in and be a fairly big signing if it came off.

“Suffice to say, it’s from a club a league or two above us. If I can get this person and another one I’ve spoken to – it’s a forward and defender I’ve been speaking to – it would put us in a good place.

“Then I’m after a keeper and a midfielder and there’s the spine of my team – it looks strong then. There’s still work to do.

“We’re going to look at players that are playing at our level and above and from levels below.

“There’s nothing to say that lads below aren’t good enough to play in the Southern League.

“If bodies become available that we feel will enhance the group, then great.

“If we can go toe-to-toe with some clubs on budget, then fantastic. I’ve got to be careful where I spend the money.

“We want to get the spine strong, if we can then we’re in a better position come the start of the season.”

Dorchester have signed off for the summer after holding three light training sessions as lockdown eased.

The Magpies begin the new Southern League Premier South season on Saturday, August 14.
