A SERVICE was held in Bridport over the weekend to commemorate the life of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Mayor of Bridport Councillor Ian Bark and his wife attended a small commemoration service on Saturday, April 17 in the churchyard of St Mary's Church on South Street, along with representatives of the armed services and local churches.

The service was held a few hours before Prince Philip's funeral at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

The Bridport service was held outdoors beside the Burma Star Memorial at 11am on Saturday morning and was officiated by the Rev Pete Stone and the Rev Helen Croud.

Prince Philip was the patron of the Burma Star Association, an organisation set up for veterans of the Burma Campaign during the Second World War and their families.

Covid regulations were observed throughout the service and the weather remained pleasant and dry.
