A CELEBRATION of page-to-screen adaptations is taking place virtually and starts today.

The Bridport From Page to Screen festival - which celebrates the relationship between books and films - will take place online.

The event will take place from Thursday, April 22 to Saturday, April 24 and will see two film screenings a day along with a number of talks from industry professionals.

Three BAFTA nominated films - including the Lyme-Regis based Ammonite - will be available to watch from the comfort of your own home, alongside three more.

Kicking off the festival at 5pm on Thursday will be the screening of 'The Personal History of David Copperfield' followed by The Mauritanian at 7.30pm. Edith Bowman will then be talking to director Kevin Macdonald and Mohamedou Ould Slahi, speaking about Mr Slahi's memoir 'Guantanamo Diary' - documenting the 14 years he spent without charge and experiencing torture in the US detention camp - which inspired Macdonald's new film 'The Mauritanian'.

Friday will see Sir Christopher Hampton CBE joining writer and broadcaster Francine Stock to discuss his career in theatre and film, including his screenplay for The Father, starring Anthony Hopkins - which will be shown at 7.30pm. Brian Welsh's 'Beats' will then be shown at 10.30pm.

'Ammonite' will be shown on the final day of the event at 7.30pm and will be preceded by a talk with acclaimed actress Gemma Jones, who plays Mary Anning's mother in the film. 'Oliver Sacks - His Own Life' will be shown earlier in the day at 5pm.

To view all six films, virtual attendees can buy a £20 festival pass, which gives access to festival screenings.
