A TOTAL of 15 fire crews attended a blaze at a pub on the A35 after its thatched roof caught fire.

The call-out happened yesterday (April 4) around noon which saw the thatched roof of the White Hart, on the A35 near Axminster alight.

On arrival the crews, including one from Bridport Fire Station, Lyme Regis Fire Station, and Charmouth Fire Station, put out the fire by stripped the thatching and create 'fire breaks' on the roof.

A spokesman from Bridport Fire Station said: "[A crew] from Bridport was initially mobilised for standby duties at Colyton Fire Station in Devon.

"Not long after arriving an assistance message was received for 'make pump 12' for a property fire that involved a thatched roof.

"Bridport crews made there way to the incident and carried out salvaging of the owners possessions and valuables.
