BRIDPORT churches are inviting people to get outdoors as part of their Good Friday pilgrimage.

Members of the Anglican Bridport Team churches and the United Church have joined forces to encourage residents to 'focus on our shared responsibility to care for the Earth' this Good Friday, April 2.

The traditional service of Stations of the Cross will move outside church buildings – and into the community. Those who take part will be able to focus on Jesus’ walk to the cross by using the great outdoors to mark the journey.

Team Rector of Bridport, the Rev’d Deb Smith said: “We live in a beautiful place, and in this year of lockdown, perhaps we’ve appreciated the gift of being outside more than ever.

“On Good Friday we invite people to focus on the very simple things around us – the trees, plants, the sky and the fresh air – and our shared responsibility to care for them – in order to make their own Good Friday pilgrimage.”

Using a simple leaflet prepared by the churches anyone can make their own journey to share in following the way of the cross.

Participants can choose to walk from church to church, stay within a churchyard or choose a favourite place so they can engage with the journey as they chose to. People can walk as far as they would like – and it is even possible to make the journey in your imagination from an armchair.

Each station has a focus which ideally would be something easily found wherever people choose to make their journey. The leaflet offers some words which could be read out loud; and an action, and a prayer.
