THE issue of poor broadband connections in west Dorset was highlighted in Parliament.

The area's MP Chris Loder spoke in the House of Commons this week, calling for more action on 'broadband isolation'.

More than 36 per cent of west Dorset residents have internet speeds of slower than 30 megabits per second.

Dorset Council is working on a programme to deliver broadband improvements, specifically focused on the construction of a 'full-fibre spine' to provide improved connectivity. It would require £2.54 million in government support.

Mr Loder said: “Rural Dorset has long been disadvantaged due to poor broadband connectivity.

"The coronavirus pandemic has emphasised the need, and people have worked and learnt from home.

"Fast and stable broadband is essential for our economy improvements if we are to successfully build back better after this pandemic."
