A CARE home has suffered serious damage to its basement after a fire involving a tumble drier.

At 7.30am yesterday morning, crews from Charmouth and Lyme Regis fire stations were called to a blaze at Magnolia House Care Home in Axminster, along with a fire engine from Axminster Fire Station and the aerial ladder platform from Yeovil.

The fire was in the basement of the property and involved a tumble drier.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "The crew got to work to investigate the cause of the fire, with the use of two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one covering jet and one thermal imaging camera.

"The crew identified the fire to be caused by a tumble drier within the laundry room and has now been extinguished. The basement has 50 per cent damage caused by fire. The fire was believed to have been caused by an electrical issue.

"Fire crews also administered first aid and oxygen therapy to one resident whilst this incident was ongoing. The resident was left in the hands of ambulance personnel."
