A BRIDPORT based cancer support group will be opening their new allotment this week, joined by a local TV gardener.
The Living Tree, which provides self-help support to those affected by cancer, will be hosting an event on Friday, 19 March to officially celebrate the opening of the allotment.
The opening event, which will only be a small affair as a result of the current Covid restrictions, will feature an appearance by local Horticulturalist, Charlie McCormack, who has been making great strides in the gardening world. Mr McCormack writes about gardening for a number of national publications and has appeared on BBC's Gardeners World.
The group obtained an outdoor allotment space alongside the River Brit in October 2020 - the idea behind it being a place where anyone affected by cancer can go and nurture the fruits, herbs, and vegetables, as well as connecting with nature and other people.
The Living Tree have continued to meet during lockdown on Zoom and from April will see small groups of members sharing gardening tips whilst supporting each other.
The group will now be offering a 'drop in and sew seeds session' every Wednesday morning from 10am -12 from the beginning of April to anyone in the local community whose lives have been affected by cancer.
