RESIDENTS are being encouraged to get involved in a showcase of collage art.

Weymouth-based collage artist, Jodie House, is putting on a community event to mark World Collage Day in May.

The event will include residents sharing their work, both displayed in their windows and on social media platforms, and free collage starter kits will be available to people and groups that sign up.

The event is currently scheduled to take place on Zoom but Jodie is looking into prospective venues to host the event if lockdown measures at the time allow it.

Jodie said: "Over the last year a really proactive cut and paste grass roots community has come together across Dorset.

"To celebrate World Collage Day I am organising and self funding a free local and community event - currently going ahead via Zoom and workshops - that organisations and professional partnerships can take part in with their young people, community groups and service users.

"The aim of the day is to connect people, improve mental health and wellbeing, and make art."

Jodie hopes to get as many people signed up take part on the day as possible, particularly vulnerable people who have been impacted by Covid and the lockdown restrictions.

World Collage Day is an annual, international celebration of collage and community which takes place this year on Saturday, May 8. It was created in 2018 by Ric Kasini Kadour, the editor and publisher of collage-based publication, Kolaj Magazine. The aim of the international event is to encourage collage artists to step outside the bubble of the collage community and showcase their talents to a wider audience.

Mr Kadour said that he created World Collage Day 'because we wanted to honour this community of artists and to remind the world what a spirit of cooperation, mutual support, and creativity can look like'.

Residents are invited to sign-up for a free collage kit to get you started, along with instructions for the day itself..

Numbers are limited and kits will be given out on a first come first served basis, but a cheap resource list will be shared before the event.
