A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after she fell on a coast path and suffered a suspected broken ankle.

Yesterday, a 58-year-old woman fell on the cliff path on Burton Cliffs and sustained a suspected broken left ankle.

Coastguard officers and paramedics were called at 12.27pm.

A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team said: "The lady was out for a walk but slipped on a steep section of the cliff path on the descent towards Freshwater, sustaining a suspected broken left ankle.

"Officers quickly made their way to the station in West Bay to pick up their equipment and 4x4 rescue vehicle, then headed for Burton Cliffs.

"South Western Ambulance Service were aware of the incident and were also responding.

"Using the team's 4x4 vehicle, officers were able to travel off-road along the top of the cliffs to just above the casualty's location.

"The lady was found to be in good spirits but in a lot of discomfort. After an initial assessment, her ankle injury was stabilised with a splint and fracture straps and she was kept warm.

"The ambulance service arrived shortly after and the paramedics were transported to the scene using the team's 4x4 vehicle.

"Once pain relief had been administered, the casualty was packaged into the team's stretcher and transported back to the waiting ambulance for her onward trip to hospital.

"We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery."
