GROUPS of people who travelled to West Bay and Lyme Regis at the weekend were fined for breaching Covid regulations - including a group of bikers and people travelling from London.

In total, six people were issued with fines in west Dorset as people broke lockdown rules to travel to the area.

Four people riding motorcycles were issued with fixed penalty notices at West Bay on Sunday, having travelled to the area from Purbeck.

This followed two people being fined for travelling from London to Lyme Regis on Saturday.

The six people in question were issued with £200 fixed penalty notices.

The fixed penalty notices are issued for breaches of lockdown rules, including travelling to Dorset from out of town, protesting against the lockdown and being out without a good excuse.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “Officers have been out in the community throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and have continued to take a sensible approach when dealing with reported breaches of the restrictions.

“Our officers, including our dedicated Covid-19 patrol officers, will continue to use a four Es approach of escalation, where they will engage, explain and encourage people to follow the regulations.

“Where this is not effective, then enforcement action will be taken when reasonable, proportionate and in line with Covid-19 regulations.

“Everyone has a social responsibility to stick within the rules and we would ask that people follow them to help keep people safe and prevent the spread of the virus.”
