LOCAL schoolchildren received a visit from 'the Queen' as a part of their latest project.

Reception and year one pupils at St Catherine's Primary School in Bridport had an extraordinary visitor on Tuesday, February 23.

The visit was a part of the classes' ongoing 'topic project' on London. The children were able to ask 'Her Royal Highness' a number of questions, such as: 'How old are you?', 'what car drove you here?', 'where do you live?' and 'how many corgis do you have?'. They also enquired about the health of Prince Philip.

The event was put together by foundation leader, Becky Treble.

Mrs Treble said: "I thought it would be a great way to add to our London project by meeting its most famous resident. I am very grateful to Mrs Buchart - the Lady in Waiting to Her Royal Highness - for helping me to make this monumental occasion happen.

"We had a Zoom meeting so all the pupils working from home could join in and everyone had a fantastic time."

Sarah Terrey, headteacher at St Catherine's, said: "It was great to see the children waving their union jack flags and interacting with such an esteemed visitor, we are learning about British values throughout the school at the moment and to have a visit from the Queen, to help keep up everyone's spirits, was just wonderful."

n Schools are currently open for children of critical workers as well as for vulnerable pupils. All pupils return to classes next week.
