Vital repairs to repair a collapsed sewer in the A357 Blandford Road in Shillingstone near Blandford have been ongoing since Sunday, January 31.

The section of the A-road between the two junctions of Church Road was closed in both directions by Wessex Water while a larger road closure, on the A357 between Durweston Bridge to Bridge Street in Sturminster Newton is also in force.

These works were due to end on Sunday, February 21 but this has been extended until Monday, March 8.

A spokesman for Wessex Water said that this is because workers have identified a way to prevent the sewer from collapsing again and cause further disruption.

The two road closures will also remain in place until March 8 and As before, resident and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

A spokesman for Wessex Water said: “Work to repair the sewer is on schedule, however we have since identified a way to line the sewer pipe to prevent it from collapsing again. This unfortunately wasn’t possible in the first road closure in January due to the extent of the damage.

“To line the sewer we are now having to keep the road closure in place until Monday, March 8.

"We apologise for the further disruption to essential journeys that this will cause motorists and would like to thank them for their patience while we complete this essential work.”
