A WOMAN got the shock of her life after a lorry crashed into the side of her home.

Miya Pieris ended up chasing the lorry down the road after the driver failed to stop.

Police are now hunting the driver after the vehicle collided with the side of a building in a narrow part of Parsons Lane in Askerswell.

The crash, which happened at around 8am caused damage to the roof of the house, the home of Mrs Pieris and her husband John.

Their home faces another property in Parsons Lane and the road narrows at this point.

Miya Pieris told how she was in bed, just a few feet away from where the impact occurred, when she heard the sound of a vehicle making contact with the house.

Mrs Pieris said: "I was in my bedroom when I heard the sound. It was a horrible noise, a terrible ripping sound - I had no idea what it could be.

"I looked out the window and realised what had happened.

"I rushed outside with no shoes on and yelled for the driver to stop but they kept driving. I chased the lorry down the road but it drove away.

"It was such a loud noise, he must have heard it. He must have felt it too."

She added: "This person knows exactly what they had done and they chose to drive off regardless. They didn't know what damage they left behind, it could have been a lot worse."

Mrs Pieris said she was unable to make out the vehicle's number plate.

A number of tiles on her home were displaced as a result of the crash on February 8 and many came off the roof. Some were found on Litten Lane, the next road along from the house.

The damage was mended quickly as builders had been due to visit the property that day to clear and fix the guttering.

There was no significant structural damage but some internal damage was caused which still needs fixing.

Mrs Pieris said: "We were very lucky really as it could have been a lot worse. I'm not really upset about the tiles coming off but it's a criminal matter - the driver failed to stop and that is a crime.

"I was in the bed in the room that was hit. If it had been a harder impact I could have been killed."

PC Maddie Barber, of Dorset Police, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to identify the lorry involved in this collision and I would urge anyone with information that might assist our investigation to please contact us.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who was driving in the area on the morning of Monday 8 February and may have captured anything relevant on dashcam.”

As of yet no arrests have been made an enquiries are ongoing.
