UNPAID carers in receipt of Carers Allowance are now eligible for the coronavirus vaccine.

Carer Support Dorset is a leading organisation in support of unpaid carers and has confirmed those carers receiving an allowance, or the main carer of an elderly or disabled person, are now included in the Covid-19 vaccine priority group 6.

The decision has been made as a response to reducing the chances of the carer - or the vulnerable person they are caring for - becoming ill.

A key way of being identified as an unpaid carer is being registered as such with a GP practice.

A Dorset Clinicial Commissioning Group spokesman said: "People who are currently eligible for a Covid-19 vaccination but have not been contacted can attend the large vaccination centre or community pharmacy.

"Appointments can be booked by calling 119 or visiting the national booking service online www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination to choose a time and location that suits them.

"Please note that only the large vaccination centre and the community pharmacies can be booked on the national booking system."
