TRIBUTES have been paid to Dorset’s retiring police and crime commissioner Martyn Underhill after nine years in the role.
Elections for a new commissioner will be held in May, the Government confirmed on Friday, with polling stations open but with voters asked to bring their own pen or pencil to cut down on the risk of virus transmission.
Members of the county’s police and crime panel thanked Mr Underhill for his work at his last panel meeting.
Cllr Bobbie Dove said the commissioner had worked incredibly hard during his time in office on behalf of residents.
“I’d like to extend my sincerest thanks. He has made himself very available, very approachable and has always been there to help when needed, so thank you.”
Panel chairman Mike Short added his thanks personally, from the panel and on behalf of Dorset residents: “You have moved Dorset Police into a good place,” he said.
Mr Underhill said he had seen three panel chairs and had overseen two chief constables during his time in office.
“It’s been an absolute honour and I wish you all save in these extraordinary times,” he said.
