A BRIDPORT veterinary clinic is looking for more local dogs to become blood donors.

Bredy Veterinary Centre is calling on local dog owners to consider letting their dogs donate blood to enable them to treat sick dogs that need transfusions quickly.

There are strict criteria for donor dogs. They must be a large dog weighing 25 kilograms or more, between one and eight-years-old, vaccinated and up-to-date with annual boosters, not on medication, have never travelled abroad and have a good nature.

A spokesman for Bredy Veterinary Centre said: "We do have a dog blood bank in the UK but it's often quicker for us to call in a local donor. If you think your dog might be able to help, please telephone or email us to discuss."
