WORK to refurbish a town's water system and improve quality has begun.

Work to replace ageing pipework in Beaminster began on January 18 and will continue until April 9.

The work does not require any road closures of traffic management so disruption to the public should be minimal, Wessex Water said.

A site north of The Green is being used as a temporary compound while the works are being carried out.

A spokesman for Wessex Water said: "We're replacing ageing pipework in Beaminster to improve water quality and ensure a more reliable supply.

"We'll have a compound in place until April 9 for this essential work, which won't interrupt customers' water or sewerage services."

The compound, which is 20 by 30 metres, can be accessed via an existing field gate and includes a site office cabin and a storage container, contained by a 1.8 metre fence.

The site is close to the grade two listed Beaminster Manor park and garden.
