DORSET Council have responded to calls it will have to spend up to £50,000 to clean up PPE on the streets.

Spokesperson for Business Waste, Mark Hall claimed the council will have to spend between £20,000 to 50,000 of council tax payers money to clear up littered face masks.

However the council have said it does not recognise the estimated figure and have not designated any additional funding for this aspect of street cleaning.

A council spokesman said: "We do not recognise the estimated figures and have not designated any additional funding for this aspect of street cleaning.

"We also believe that the current provision of bins both on Dorset’s streets and at home are sufficient for the disposal of PPE."

Mr Hall said his figures are based this on population, number of disposable face masks, area size, disposal costs and labour.
