A woman who fell 6ft and broke her leg was airlifted to safety in another Jurassic Coast rescue drama.

The incident happened in the Culverhole area between Seaton and Lyme Regis yesterday afternoon.

It came a day after a woman was rescued in a challenging operation after falling off a cliff, also in the Seaton area.

Lyme Regis and Beer Coastguard Rescue Teams were again involved in yesterday's incident.

Due to the difficult location on the coast a helicopter was brought in. It airlifted her to a safe area where an ambulance could park up.

A spokesman for Beer Coastguard said: "The female had fallen 6 feet from a cliff and had broken her leg.

"She was located at Culverhole, east of Seaton - a 35 minute walk along the beach.

"Team members made their way to the casualty; a paramedic was soon on scene.

"The first team members arrived and assessed the casualty while the rest of the team were bringing the stretcher.

"It was thought that a helicopter extraction would be the best option, but waited until the paramedics arrived for their opinion.

"They confirmed a helicopter was the best option, as a stretcher carry along the beach would have taken an hour and caused more pain to the casualty.

"Coastguard Rescue 187 was tasked from St Athan near Cardiff.

"Once on scene it dropped the winchman on the beach and took off again to assess a landing site near the ambulance at the river mouth.

"It then went back and picked up the casualty.

"The helicopter then landed at the river mouth and we transferred her to the ambulance for onward journey to hospital."
