ELEVEN affordable homes are set to be built in Bridport for families and young people.

The project is a collaboration between South West housebuilder, Baker Estates, and Magna Housing and hopes to deliver the new homes over a two year period.

The homes are being built as part of the Baker Estates’ new Palmers Meadow development.

The development will be situated in Watton Park near to the Bridport Leisure Centre.

The project is currently in its first phase of development and work will begin shortly.

Graham Hutton, development director at Baker Estates, said: “Not only are we providing much needed affordable homes at Palmers Meadow in Bridport, but the overall construction project will also generate inward investment including new jobs for local people.”

"We are delighted to have started an exciting new partnership with Magna Housing and look forward to working with the organisation over the coming years as the new homes are built for young people and families to enjoy for years to come.”

Eight of the properties are rented units whilst the other three will be for sale through shared ownership. All shared ownership homes have been reserved, viewings have taken place and buyers are proceeding.

The developers say they have had good feedback from both local residents and councillors.

Paul Land, interim head of development and sales at Magna Housing, said: “We are pleased to be working with Baker Estates to provide new housing opportunities for local people who are struggling to either buy a home or rent privately.

“At Magna our vision is to create great homes together and we want to make communities where people want to live. This development at Palmers Meadow development will allow people to remain in Bridport and help them to have safe and secure homes.”
