More than 570 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed across Dorset in the last 24 hours.

Data released by the government shows 572 cases were recorded in the 24 hours leading up to 4pm on Sunday.

In the Dorset Council area, 174 new cases were confirmed, taking the total since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 to 7,842.

The rolling rate of infection in this part of the county was 503 per 100,000 people, with 1,147 cases confirmed in the seven days leading up to January 12, the latest rolling seven-day period.

In the Bournemouth, Christchurch Poole council area, a further 398 cases were confirmed, taking the conurbation’s total since the start of the pandemic to 18,123.

The rolling infection rate in BCP stood at 849.7 cases per 100,000, with 3,359 cases confirmed in the seven days leading up to January 12.
