Bridport Police have some advice if you received an e-scooter for Christmas.

While electric scooters are legally available to purchase, it’s currently against the law to ride privately-owned ones in any public place including on roads and pavements.

Only a select few areas in England are holding trials for rental scooters to be ridden in public.

A police spokesman said: "Only use it on private land. Use a bicycle bell or horn to warn others that you are near them. Make sure you wear a helmet - be careful not to get too close to others. Remember, you are not allowed to use your e-scooter on public land, you my be issued with a ticket."
