A PROPOSAL for a new home off Portland’s Avalanche Road has been refused by Dorset Council.

The outline application was for part of the garden at number 7, a semi-detached house on the western side of the road, opposite the Church of St Andrew.

An indicative plan with the application showed a single storey bungalow with two bedrooms.

Portland town council had objected to the application claiming the new home would be an overdevelopment of the site.

Council officers deciding the application were told that an outline consent in 2008 for the same site had been refused because of concerns about the access and the effect a new home would have on the neighbouring property.

They heard that although the proposed home had been re-sited, compare to the original scheme, it would still result in traffic passing close to the existing house via a narrow access.
