A POLICE officer has hit out at ‘unacceptable’ incidents of fly tipping after rubbish was dumped in rural Dorset.

Speaking on Dorset Police Rural Crime Team’s Facebook page, PC Sebastian Haggett said flytippers dumped waste in two locations in the West Stafford area near Dorchester between 7.45pm on Thursday (October 29) and 7.30am on Friday morning (October 30).

Photographs of the dumped waste show pieces of wood with nails in, cardboard, a chair and bags of rubbish were dumped on a farmer’s land and a public road.

Local horse riders told the police that their horses almost stepped on pieces of wood with nails in, which would have seriously injured them.

Dorset Police has launched an investigation into the fly tipping and is urging any witnesses or any one with information to come forward.

PC Sebaastian Haggett said: “This is unacceptable. Fly tippers show no regard for both the environment, the safety of wildlife or animals and that of the rural community.

“As you can see they dumped in two locations. One on a farmers land and the other in the middle of a public road, putting road users at risk.

“Not only does this crime look unsightly in the beautiful Dorset countryside but it carries a financial cost to the victim.

“In this incident some local horse riders have reported almost having their horses standing on wood with nails in it, which were products of the dump. “

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “Whilst local authorities lead on fly tipping investigations, dealing with fly tipping requires a multi-agency approach.

“If you see someone fly tipping, please call 999. If you see someone who you suspect is about to fly tip please call 101.

“This is so that police can look to get to the scene as quickly as possible and catch those that commit waste crime or follow up on any suspected fly tippers.

“If you find a fly tip please report it via the council contact details in the link.”
