A MILITARY aviation exercise is scheduled for next week in Purbeck – and it involves up to eight helicopters flying some night sorties.

Bovington Camp is hosting the training exercise, which will include Chinook, Merlin and Wildcat helicopters.

The Armour Centre, Bovington, says it will take place from Monday, September 28, up until Friday, October 2, with flying taking place from midday through to 1am.

A spokesman for the Armour Centre said: "In order to meet all training objectives the aircrew are required to achieve a number of night sorties, this will necessarily mean flying through to the early hours of the morning.

"Aircraft routing in and out of Bovington Camp has been planned to minimise disruption as far as possible and the continued support of the local community is very much appreciated during this essential training."
