Despite the town’s much-loved and popular agricultural show being cancelled this year, children were still able to take part in the competitive fun.

Melplash Agricultural Society decided to run virtual children’s craft competitions, which included four decorated cupcakes to the theme of the Melplash Show, a farm animal made of vegetables and/or fruit, nuts, foliage and feathers, a decorated pebble and anything they wanted.

In the decorated cupcake competition, the winners in the six-years-old and under class were Joseph Foote in first place, Albert Huxter in second and Eden Nikolov in third. For those aged seven to 10, Daisy Pawley was first, Evie Huxter second and Imogen Dunn. Elizabeth Sanderson was the winner in the 11 to 15-year-old class.

For the farm animal, Freddie Vickery came in first for the six-year-olds and under, followed by Yasmin Hill and then Joseph Foote. For the seven to 10-year-olds, William Bowditch was first, Imogen Dunn second and Elizabeth Foote third, Eva Bowditch won it for the 11 to 15-year-old class.

Yasmin Hill won first place in the six years and under class for the decorated pebble, followed by Eden Nikolov. In the seven to 10-year-old class, Tilly Stephenson was first, Ella Stephenson second and Imogen Dunn third. Danielle Jones came out on top in the 11 to 15-year-old class, followed by Faye Stephenson and then Hannah Golding.

In the ‘anything you like’ competition, Eden Nikolov won the six-years-old and under class and Daisy Pawley won the 7 to 10-years-oild class. Hannah Golding won first place in the 11 to 15-year-olds class, Faye Stephenson was second and Seb Pawley was third.

A spokesman for the Melplash Agricultural Society said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in our virtual children’s craft classes this year.

“We received 60 entries in total, all showcasing the amazing talent of everyone who took part. Also, a very big thank you to the judges - Jennifer Horsington, Nicola Bagwell and Julia Stantiford.”
