AN ANNUAL flower display has gone up outside a pub, courtesy of the landlady.

The Crown Inn is a landmark pub in Bridport, located next to the A35 Crown Roundabout.

The pub’s management team take great pride in putting together a stunning floral display every year, spending hundreds of pounds in order to give customers and passers-by alike something interesting to look at.

The difference this year is that due to Covid-19 regulations and a loss of finances during the lockdown period, the pub did not employ professional florists to create the display like they usually would.

Instead, the venue’s landlady, Sarah Darby, decided to turn her hand to producing the highly anticipate display.

Simon Warry, landlord of the Crown Inn, said: “Usually we use professional florists but since the Covid restrictions were still in place when we wanted to start working on the display, my partner Sarah used her green finger skills to put it all together herself.

“Sarah grew everything from scratch and the end result was really something spectacular.

“In previous years we have never had the time to arrange the display ourselves, but she was able to make the most of being closed and tried her hand at it.”

Despite having no training in flower arrangement, Sarah Darby was able to put together a stunning display which would not look out of place when compared to previous years.

Being afforded more free time than usual due to the pub being closed over lockdown, she started early, planting seeds in April that would grow in time for summer.

Mr Warry added: “We have had a lot of positive feedback, people like to sit in the garden and watch the world go by and the display really adds to that experience. We’ve had great compliments about the flowers on the pub.

“We’re right on main road so people who drive by have something to look at going past the roundabout, stands out.”

The garden of the Crown Inn now boasts more than 100 species of plants, trees and even cacti.

The display went up around the usual time in June and will remain in place until around October time.
