Bridport Gig Club has restarted rowing from its boatyard in West Bay after a break of six months following the coronavirus lockdown.

This return to rowing is in line with the protocol agreed by British Rowing, the Department of Health and the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Additional cleaning and sanitisation processes are being followed by the rowers in accordance with a risk assessment. Coxes have taken part in familiarisation sessions to ensure that they are able to lead safe sessions in line with the new requirements.

The entire racing season, including the world championships, normally held in the Scilly Isles in May, and the Jurassic League, which Bridport has won for the last three seasons, has been scrapped for 2020. It is hoped that there will be a return to competitive rowing in 2021.

Initially rowing will be restricted to existing members, but it is hoped to offer learn to row courses before the weather worsens.
