A top chef who has worked around the world in Michelin star kitchens, appeared on TV and cooked for royalty will be making Lyme Regis a permanent home for her new restaurant venture.

Harriet Mansell initially operated a pop-up kitchen in the area to test demand from customers and she is now delighted to be opening a new permanent restaurant which will feature a menu packed with foraged food and local products.

The restaurant, called Robin Wylde, will open in a former ceramics shop on Silver Street on October 28.

Harriet has made a reputation in the culinary world for creating stunning dishes with foraged food and local ingredients. She competed alongside the country's finest chefs on BBC’s Great British Menu and has worked around the world in renowned restaurants and Michelin star kitchens, including cooking for the Qatari Royal Family in the Seychelles and the Murdoch family in the Caribbean.

Ms Mansell said: “Opening this restaurant is my lifetime ambition fulfilled, excitement levels are a 10 out of 10. The perfect opportunity has come up and it’s all fallen into place.

“We operated as a pop-up kitchen to test the waters and I’m so thrilled we were eventually able to turn the idea into a restaurant.

“A lot of people are still very cautious, rightfully so as we are operating in a global pandemic, so we want to make those people comfortable as possible and relieve some of that anxiety."

The restaurant will be able to seat 32 people, however due to social distancing restrictions it will initially operate with a reduced capacity of 20 covers.

The menu boasts a nine-course tasting experience, alongside optional pairings of low intervention and West Country wines. It also offers a range of drinks including beers, ciders and mead.

Ms Mansell said: “It’s the place you come for a special occasion. It's not a rushed situation. If you want you can arrive early for an aperitif or stay for cheese afterwards.

“It will definitely be a good place for a date, you don’t have to think too much as it’s pretty much all decided for you.”

Robin Wylde will be running one lunch service per day from Thursdays to Saturdays at 12.30pm. Dinner sittings will run from Wednesday to Saturday at 7.30pm.

The menu will change every six weeks, taking advantage of the wild foods which grow along the coastline and reflecting the changes in season.
