An emergency services incident involving an 'aggressive' man preventing a train from leaving a station delayed trains on the Weymouth-Waterloo line this morning.

The incident prompted the closure of the London-bound line between Poole and Bournemouth around 8.30am.

A statement from South Western Railway said: “Following the emergency services dealing with an incident near the railway between Poole and Bournemouth the line has now reopened.

“Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 11am.

“We were informed that emergency services were dealing with an incident near the railway between Poole and Bournemouth. This has since been resolved and all lines are now open.”

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "It was an aggressive male preventing the train from leaving.

"He was over the yellow line refusing to leave.

"The ambulance service was sent to check him but he had left by the time they arrived.

"The call came in at 8.15am."
