FIREFIGHTERS are taking on a 155-mile challenge to raise money for stem cell donations after a colleague was diagnosed with cancer.
A team from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service will be tackling the challenge on September 17 to raise money for DKMS, a charity which provides donor kits for potential stem cell donors
The challenge, dubbed ‘Ride 4 Guy’, will see participants cycling from Lyme Regis Fire Station to the Cricklade Fire Station just outside of Swindon in one day. These two stations are the two furthest points in the service area.
Firefighters are taking on the challenge after a member of the team, Guy Tadman, contracted Acute Myeloid Leukemia last November.
Mr Tadman is currently in recovery having received a stem cell donation from his son in April.
Riders will aim to complete the challenge within 12 to 13 hours, with scheduled stops at Poole, Salisbury and Trowbridge fire stations.
The group has currently raised £305 of their £2,500 target.
