SONS of the founder of a care service charity have run more than 13 miles to raise thousands of pounds for care workers.

Adam and Simon Luckhurst, sons of Agincare founder Derek Luckhurst, along with their half-brother, Will Hodder, ran from Dorchester Road to Portland on September 5, raising more than £2,500 in the process.

The trio had been hoping to take part in Weymouth half marathon, which was originally scheduled to be held last Sunday.

But the cancellation of the event did not deter the three brothers from their fundraising efforts as they decided to run the distance anyway, with a little extra added on for good measure.

Between them the brothers were able to raise £2,540 for the Care Workers’ Charity, an organisation which supports current and former care workers through one-off grants.

They were also joined on the journey by socially distanced friends, who were running in aid of Dorset Mind, a charity which provides support to people with mental health issues in the Dorset area.

They were raising funds in memory of Ben Porteous, who tragically took his own life in October 2018. They were able to raise £2,800, which was donated to the mental health charity.

Adam said: “Care is in our blood - our dad founded Agincare and all three of us are part of the family business.

“As a company employing more than 3,500 care workers, we’ve been raising money for the Care Workers’ Charity for a while, and the three of us signed up to run for the charity in the original half marathon back in March.

“Given the dedication of care workers across the country throughout Covid-19, and the vital work of Dorset Mind, we were determined to keep our personal fundraising commitment.”

He added: “Together with our friends, we’d like to thank everyone who has supported us, the Care Workers’ Charity and Dorset Mind. Every penny will make a real difference to people in need of support.”
