No new cases of coronavirus were recorded in the Dorset Council area over the 24 hour period to 9am on Friday, official figures show.

Public Health England figures show that 666 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, in line with the same time on Thursday.

However, there were two new cases in the Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole (BCP) Council area taking the total to 921.

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

The rate of infection in the Dorset Council area stands at 176 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 525. The rate is 223 in the BCP area.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 1,940 over the period, to 342,351.

Dorset's cases were among the 14,935 recorded across the South West, a figure which rose by 69 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
