IN reply to Richard Thompson’s letter (Bridport News Aug 12), I have been proud to kneel peacefully and spend eight mins 46 secs in quiet and respectful contemplation of the plight of George Floyd and the countless Black, Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) people hurt and indeed killed, disproportionately, due to racial prejudice and discrimination.
Partly the aim of such a protest is to bring attention to the cause in question and so by prompting Mr Thompson and others to write into the Bridport News about it, I would say it has been successful.
So, not such “a vain and pointless gesture” (the words of Mr Thompson), after all but one which brings the matter to people’s attention.
It publicly bears witness and shows support to BAME people in a visible and continuing way.
If you too feel racism has no place in a civilised society and a Rights Respecting Town like Bridport, please do join in on Wednesdays, 6pm, Bucky Doo Square.
