Coastguards were called after reports of a woman in anaphylactic shock on Seaton Beach.
The Lyme Regis Coastguard team was called to the medical emergency, as was the ambulance and fire brigade, at about 4pm yesterday.
However, it soon became clear that they were not needed, as the incident had happened 80 miles down the coast at Seaton in Cornwall, not Seaton in Devon.
