BEAMINSTER Scouts are asking permission for a new meeting hut at The Orchard, Newtown, opposite the Holy Trinity burial ground.
The 1st Beaminster Scout Group is asking Dorset Council to be allowed to demolish an existing block-built garage and put up a purpose-built steel-framed hut of 18x8 metres, slightly more than twice the size of the existing building.
More than 30 youngsters use the site, aged from 6 to 18, split into three groups, led by local volunteers. The group’s history dates back 90 year and for the past 50 years they have owned the garage site.
If approved the new building would provide a meeting room, a kitchen and washroom and storage space.
