The community is being encouraged to continue supporting each other with a ‘garden glut stall’.

Many allotment holders or gardeners who grow fruit and vegetables will have a surplus at this time of year, meanwhile, Cupboard Love and the community fridge are inundated with requests for help to feed families. This is where the idea of a glut stall came about.

Sarah Wilberforce, a volunteer at St Mary’s Primary School’s edible garden, said: “During the school holidays we are harvesting loads of wonderful fruit and veg which are not being used in the school kitchen.

“The lockdown has shown us some of the best side of Bridport with people supporting each other and sharing produce. Let’s carry on building our community.”

Every Wednesday during the school holiday there will be a stall in the car park of St Mary’s Primary School. From 8am to 10.30am, gardeners are invited to bring their excess produce and to help harvest from the school garden and from 10.30am to 12.30pm, anyone is welcome to come along and select a bag of fruit or vegetables, free of charge - although contributions are welcome.

Last week was the first time the stall was there and blackcurrants, courgettes, cucumbers, pink fur potatoes, herbs, eggs and sweet peas were available.
