Gardens are bursting out into glorious colour all over Dorset, as this latest collection of readers’ pictures shows.
This week in our new section My Beautiful Garden, we’re visiting beautiful outdoor havens in Martinstown, lovingly put together by Angela Matthews and West Stafford, which has been carefully cultivated by Mike Davis.
Angela’s beautiful pergola in her Martinstown garden looking over Hardye’s Monument. She said: “We enjoy gardening because it is very rewarding and has kept us busy through lockdown. It’s been very exciting watching our garden evolve!”
Before and after Angela put the picket fence in her Martinstown garden. "We're most proud of the fact that everything we have got has been recycled," she said.
Angela’s lovely pond, which she restored. She said: “My favourite thing about my garden is that my partner Baz and I did it together. I love that it’s a haven. It’s so quiet and peaceful with many different birds singing. Just right for lockdown.”

A mixture of aliums and green shrubs in Mike Davis's West Stafford garden. He said: "It's rewarding to see the flowers bloom and pick fresh vegetables from the garden. We like to sit outside on the bench and read a book or do The Dorset Echo’s hard sudoku with drink in hand, and listen to the birds.”
A tub of David Austin pink roses in West Stafford. Mike Davis said: “The garden backs onto the railway line. In the centre is a weeping pear tree which produces a frond of purple flowers in spring surrounded by a ring of yellow roses in summer."
Mike Davis's favourite rambling rose besides the railway line. He said: "I'm most proud of the re-laying of rambler roses along the railway fence, which flower from mid June to mid July and of the creation of my vegetable garden.”
