On June 18 you had an article on the Maiden Newton to West Bay cycle path improvements and you referred to Maiden Newton as the “former” rail station.
Well I’m pleased to say that it is still very much a railway station.
Having worked there in the early sixties we were looking over our shoulder to see what Dr. Beeching might do.
Having closed the Bath to Bournemouth line completely, the Bath to Weymouth line escaped and is still very much alive - the reported passenger numbers for the line being 700,000 in 2003 to over two million in 2015.
