Dividing a garden in The Street, Charmouth to build an additional home has been refused by Dorset Council.
The application, for Alicia Cottage, asked to demolish a garage, split the site and build a new home with access to the new property off Devonledge Lane.
Papers with the request for permission said that the new home, of three bedrooms in traditional materials, would be used by the applicant’s children and grandchildren.
The parish council had objected to the application on the grounds of overdevelopment, a lack of car parking space and the new building not being proportionate to Alicia Cottage.
Dorset Council also received letters concerned about the potential overlooking of neighbouring properties.
A planning officer report concluded that the proposed property would be unduly dominating compared to other homes in the immediate area and would have an unacceptable effect on the Conservation Area.
