A woman was taken to hospital after she fell on a coast path.

West Bay and Lyme Regis coastguard rescue teams responded to calls about a 53-year-old woman who had suffered a fall on the coast path to the east of Hive Beach, Burton Bradstock just after 7pm yesterday.

Coastguard officers quickly made their way to the station in West Bay to gather their equipment and rescue vehicle, then headed for Hive Beach.

The woman was found to be half way between the coastal path and the beach below on a steep section of track.

It was suspected she also had a broken wrist, which was stabilised using the teams splints and fracture straps.

Officers above on the coastal path set up and deployed a number of ropes to be used as ‘Handrails’, to provide additional support on the walk back up to the coastal path. In the end, a stretcher carry was not required and the casualty was aided in a slow walk back up the steep path to the waiting Coastguard vehicle.

The coastguard teams gave her some initial treatment then transported her from the coast path to Hive Beach car park to await a land ambulance. She was then taken to hospital for further treatment.

A spokesman for Lyme Regis coastguard rescue team said: "We wish the casualty a speedy recovery. Stay safe on the coast this summer but in a cliff or coastal emergency, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
