HAIRDRESSERS were able to reopen at the weekend for the first time since lockdown restrictions were implemented over three months ago and west Dorset salons are back with a new 'do' of their own.

Lockdown looks and dodgy dyes can now officially become a thing of the past as hairdressers threw open their doors to let customers back into the chairs last weekend.

Bridport salons have had to adjust to new measures to keep customers and staff safe while in the building and have altered the way they work to reduce chances of contamination.

Libby Beecham, hairdresser at A Step Ahead, said: "We only opened on Monday for the first time just because we thought it would be easier to open on Monday than at the weekend. It was a really nice and steady start. We've been busy but we have enough time because we can't book people to have a cut when someone else is having a colour so that we adhere to social distancing.

"We've got hand washing stations for clients and staff are wearing visors and masks all the time. Customers have been great about all of the social distancing measures we have in place. They are so eager to get their haircut they don't mind at all."

Jody Mason, manager at Salon On The Square in Beaminster, said: "Reopening at the weekend was fine. We were very organised and we had all the social distancing and safety measures in place so it went really smoothly.

"We have had some really lovely reviews from people saying they were worried that it was going to be really sterile in the salon but that it was lovely and easy which is so nice.

"We had a huge waiting list so we are completely booked for the next few weeks."

Karen Hull, receptionist at Making Waves in Lyme Regis, said: "We opened on Saturday and staff were all a bit nervous but it went really well. I take everyone's temperature when they arrive for their appointment and luckily I haven't had to tell anyone they can't come in yet.

"We've seen a few people come in with some short fringes where they've been having a go at their own haircuts but we haven't seen any major lockdown haircut disasters!"
