A DORSET hospice charity has had to postpone its annual fundraising adventure to October 2021.

Weldmar Hospicecare runs an annual overseas challenge to raise money for the charity. This year's team of locals were originally meant to jet off to the Indian Himalayas in autumn but are no longer able to go because of coronavirus restrictions.

The delay does mean that there is an opportunity for more people to sign up to next year's trip and gives the group more time to train for the event.

As part of the overseas challenge, teams of Weldmar supporters have taken on treks all over the world in places like Iceland, the Sahara Desert, Nepal, the Borneo Jungle and Canadian Rockies.

Alaine Harman, Weldmar’s running and challenges fundraiser, said: "We have postponed our Indian Himalayas Trek to October 2021 – although a long way away it was the best decision to make based on the safety of our participants. We want all participants to have the best experience on this ‘once in a lifetime’ trek, and it would just not be the same with current restrictions.

"It gives the group the chance to get to know each other better, as we’ll arrange a number of group training walks before setting off. It will also give anyone who signs up more time for fundraising. Both training and fundraising would have been really difficult over the last few months."
