People are urged to check tide times before walking along the beach after a family was almost cut off by the tide.

Lyme Regis Coastguard team were called just after 3pm yesterday (Wednesay) after NCI Charmouth saw the family to the east of the sea wall in Lyme Regis.

A spokesman for Lyme Regis Coastguard said: "Upon arrival at the end of the sea wall, the team kept the family under observation from both there and from Charmouth. The family were unaware of the risks and reached the safety of the sea wall.

"Please always check tide times before setting off. If you need assistance, please try and give an accurate location or description of what you can see from your location. The readily available smartphone app what3words pinpoints your location to within three square metres and has proved a lifesaver.

"Stay safe on the coast this Summer, but in a cliff or coastal emergency, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
