A rogue trader has been selling items from a rucksack in Chedington.

The man has been going door to door selling household items, including cleaning products, to residents.

Police have referred to the man as a 'Nottingham Knocker', a term used to describe doorstep callers who offer the household a selection of goods they are carrying.

Police have received reports of the man yesterday and today (June 26) in Mosterton, South Perrott and Corscombe.

A spokesman for the police said: "The male, described as a white male with a Polish accent, thin, ginger hair, approximately 5'4" tall and medium build, was carrying a rucksack and trying to gain entry to a property and becoming aggressive.

"Doorstep traders such as these should be over the age of 17 and have a Pedlars Licence, which they should show on request. Like any trader they should (and generally are) courteous and use a professional selling technique. If they become pushy, they could be committing a trading offence.

"If people are happy to purchase their items, I would advise not to allow them access to your property. If you are not interested ask them to leave and if they refuse or become aggressive, call 101. If you are concerned for your safety, please call 999."
